How Delaware sets its holidays
These are the days off for Delaware state government employees (executive branch). They come from 1 Del. C. § 501; DHR holiday schedule. Private employers, banks and schools in Delaware may follow their own schedules.
Weekend rule
A holiday that falls on a Saturday is observed the Friday before; one that falls on a Sunday is observed the following Monday.
In 2027, 3 holidays are observed on a different day because of the weekend: Juneteenth, Independence Day, and Christmas Day.
Compared with the federal calendar
Delaware adds 2 holidays that the federal calendar does not have: Good Friday and Day after Thanksgiving.
It does not list these federal holidays: Presidents' Day and Columbus Day. State offices are open on those days unless another rule applies.
Listed under a Delaware name: Juneteenth National Independence Day as “Juneteenth”.
Employees also get 2 floating holidays per year. 24/7 facilities may observe different dates.
